seriously, most labels release more mp3s than records these days and there are less and less vinyl releases as time progresses.
i wonder when the last pressing plant will close doors...

2011? 2017? 2030? place your bets! Image

it's almost there, I guess, sucks to think I might never have a tune on wax though.

Nostalgia for vinyl is still strong, shame that's not reflected in sales!

Quite a few techno and dubstep labels diligently putting out wax, i have no problems when asking for turntables at gigs. It's not dead, wont die suddenly over the next few years either, too much of an infrastructure in place imo. If you're unable to shift more then 3-500 records then vinyl is effectively unreachable for you, but it wont be the first or the last type of industry to operate that way.

the problem is, its impossible to find trustworthy figures so its really hard to find out if vinyl stabilized as a niche market or if it is getting smaller and smaller. i can tell you this much: i find no obstacles that prevent me from spending way more then i should on vinyl.

look at the size of hardwax now and the amount of people that diggin' for recs there and you know where its going....of course vinyl will stay for some time but i think in the near future it'll be more and more a collector's thing

the hardtechno scene still release a lot stuff on vinyl, there are still some lovers and is not much discussion whether and when it dies, some labels will hold this medium yet.. how long remains to be seen

this... although indie music has had a resurgence in vinyl but more around 7" aiming at collectors etc.
I hear different things, but theres no escaping the fact that records sell alot less than they used to.
and the message from distributors is that if you know a 12" isnt going to shift at least between 300-500 then its not worth the risk. its pretty sad that the goal line for a release these days is to break even.

Not that I do this just for the money, but you cant expand a label if it all it does is break even!

mostly when i play techno but yes started buying some again. certain tracks still only get put out on vinyl, or they come out way before the digital release. also i've started doing some 3 deck mixing and asking for 3 turntables or 3 cdjs can be troublesome at times.
